What are aligners?

Aligners treatment is constituted of a series of virtually invisible, removable, and comfortable aligners that allow you to smile without seeing metal on your teeth. Clear aligners have been proven effective in some mild cases. First, a consultation with the orthodontist can determine if clear aligners are right for you.

Are they easy to use?

The clear aligners are removable, which makes eating and drinking whatever you want while in treatment possible. In addition, they are removed to be able to brush and floss. As for comfort, they are made of a plastic material that covers all the surfaces of the teeth, no metal and wires involved. Another good news, appointments time are short because no wire has to be changed or adjusted.

How does it work?

Before being ordered, the orthodontist decides on a treatment plan and communicates with the company’s technicians to make for you, aligners with the best fit and best sequence possible. Once delivered to the office, we give you the first set. Each set has to be worn for approximately 2 weeks, it can be removed only for eating, drinking, brushing and flossing. Replacing an aligner’s set by the next one, will move your teeth slowly. As you are closer to the lasts sets, you will see that the teeth have straightened better to their final positions. Total treatment time averages 9 to 15 months and the average number of aligners worn during treatment vary from case to case.

A 3D scan of your teeth is taken at Bouserhal Orthodontics to analyze your occlusion.

The 3D models are studied and treatment is decided using software’s by Drs at Bouserhal Orthodontics.

The 3D models and your custom aligners are printed and made at Bouserhal Orthodontics, using clear Essix plastic material.

Each aligner should be worn for 2 weeks (14-15 days), night and day, at least 22 hours each day, except while eating. In case of loss, damage or breakage of your aligners, please report to your treating doctor immediately. When inserting each aligner, gently push the aligners over your front teeth. Then, apply equal pressure, using your fingertips, to the tops of your left and right molars (back teeth) until the aligner snaps into place.

Insert the upper aligner for the top teeth (Fig. 1 and 2) and the lower aligner for your bottom teeth (Fig. 3). Aligners t tightly so you may feel some pressure which is necessary to move your teeth. After insertion you may speak with a slight lisp, which will go away after several days as your tongue adjusts to your aligners. To remove them, use your fingers, start on both sides at the molars (back teeth) and slowly work your way forward. To help prevent damage, avoid unnecessary removal.

Do not use any sharp object to remove your aligners. Immediately rinse aligner with water, shake off excess water, and store your aligners in the protective case provided with your starter kit. Once a day, clean aligners using a soft toothbrush, normal tap water and a small amount of toothpaste. Then rinse
them thoroughly with water only. Please do not use hot water to clean your aligners, as they will disfigure. When not in use, always store your aligners in your aligner box, away from children and pets.
